The Use of ئۆز to Express Politeness

«ھۆرمەت بىلدۈرىدىغان «ئۆز

When used with second-person possessive suffixes, the pronoun ئۆز serves as a substitute for the standard second-person pronouns سەن، سىز، سىلى، سىلەر. This form is usually viewed as being a more polite and respectful "you" than the standard pronouns. A slight analogue in English may be seen in the phrase "And yourself?", which usually carries a politer intonation than "And you?"

Are you a teacher?
ئۆزىڭىز ئوقۇتقۇچىمۇ؟

"Happy Qurban!"
"Yourself as well. Thank you."
