The Particle غۇ|قۇ to Reinforce the Speaker's Uncertainty

سۆزلىگۈچىنىڭ بىلمەسلىكىنى ئەسكەرتىدىغان «غۇ|قۇ» يۈكلىمىسى

The particle غۇ|قۇ may be used in some structures to highlight that the speaker is uncertain or ignorant about a particular matter. One way to form such a structure is by attaching غۇ|قۇ to the end of the phrase, followed by a hyphen and the particle تاڭ. This is analogous to the English "I don't know..." or "for some reason".

He went into the bazaar. I don't know what's keeping him there.
.ئۇ بازارغا كىرىپ كەتكەن، چىقمايدۇغۇ ـ تاڭ

He came to the meeting, but for some reason didn't even utter a single word.
.ئۇ يىغىنغا كەلدى، بىر ئېغىزمۇ گەپ قىلمىدىغۇ ـ تاڭ

One may also create the same meaning but with تاڭ - or, alternatively, تاڭەي [1,3,4] - placed at the beginning.

- Why isn't he coming out?
- Don't know. Something's keeping him there.
.ئۇ نېمىشقا چىقمايدۇ؟ -- تاڭەي، چىقمايدۇغۇ --
.ئۇ نېمىشقا چىقمايدۇ؟ -- تاڭ، چىقمايدۇغۇ --

- Why didn't he say anything?
- Who knows... He just didn't.
.ئۇ نېمىشقا گەپ قىلمىدى؟ -- تاڭەي، گەپ قىلمىدىغۇ --
.ئۇ نېمىشقا گەپ قىلمىدى؟ -- تاڭ، گەپ قىلمىدىغۇ --

When added to the verb دېمەك ("to say") in the past tense, it conveys that the speaker is doubtful of the other party's words or claims [1].

Tursun said something about going to France.
.تۇرسۇن فرانسىيەگە بارىمەن دېدىغۇ

He claims to have passed the exam.
.ئۇ ئىمتىھاندىن ئۆتەلىدىم دېدىغۇ
