Dropping the Plural Suffix: When Expressing Existence

كۆپلۈك قوشۇمچىسىنىڭ چۈشۈپ قالغىنى: مەۋجۇدىيەت بىلدۈرىدىغان گەپلەردە

In phrases that express the existence/possession (or lack thereof) of a certain noun, such as "there are books in the library" or "I don't have any toothpicks", the plural is usually not used in Uyghur the way it should be in English for countable nouns.

There are no birds in this forest.
