The Adjective-to-Noun Derivation Suffix چى

سۈپەتتىن ئىسىم ياسايدىغان «چى» ئارقا قوشۇمچىسى

While چى is most commonly used to derive nouns from other nouns (often, a professional from a thing/object of that profession), it may also act, though much less frequently, to derive nouns from words that are primarily used as adjectives (though they may, in certain contexts, function as nouns).

vigilant + [person] = policeman, policewoman
ساق + چى = ساقچى

false, fake + [person] = liar
يالغان + چى = يالغانچى

funny + [person] = comedian
قىزىق + چى = قىزىقچى

woven + [person] = weaver
توقۇما + چى = توقۇمىچى

reared, raised + [person] = shepherd, animal raiser
باقما + چى = باقمىچى

I became a policeman.
.مەن ساقچى بولدۇم

The police searched one house after another in looking for the thief.
.ساقچىلار ئوغرىنى ئىزدەپ ئۆيمۇ ـ ئۆي ئاختۇردى

The policeman stamped my residence document.
.ساقچى نوپۇس قەغىزىمغا تامغا باستى

The vowel-reduction rules follow the standard pattern, with adjectives that end in ئا or ئە having these vowels reduce to an ئى after the addition of the چى (provided that it is not a long vowel).
