The Adjective-to-Verb Derivation Suffix دا|دە

سۈپەتتىن پېئىل ياسايدىغان «دا|دە» ئارقا قوشۇمچىسى

The suffix دا|دە is closely related to the suffix لا|لە, and plays a similar derivational role (some texts report the two as being variants of one another). This includes deriving verbs from adjectives, although دا|دە is nowhere as productive as لا|لە is.

firm + [verb] = to make firm
چىڭ + دا = چىڭدا ـ

The vowel-reduction rules follow the standard pattern, with adjectives that end in ئا or ئە having these vowels reduce to an ئى after the addition of the دا|دە.

black + [verb] = to turn black
قارا + دا = قارىدا ـ

No reduction takes place when the final ئا or ئە is a long vowel, or for other vowels.
