The Noun-to-Noun Derivation Suffix نامە

ئىسىمدىن ئىسىم ياسايدىغان «نامە» ئارقا قوشۇمچىسى

The Persian suffix نامە can be added to a pretty healthy number of Uyghur nouns to derive the written document related to the original noun (e.g., certificates, records, letters). In addition to being a derivation suffix, however, نامە can also be a stand-alone word with such meanings as "letter" or "document".

invitation + [document] = written invitation
تەكلىپ + نامە = تەكلىپنامە

contract, agreement + [document] = written contract, written agreement
توختام + نامە = توختامنامە

terms, conditions + [document] = treaty, pact
شەرت + نامە = شەرتنامە

witness, testimony + [document] = certificate
گۇۋاھ + نامە = گۇۋاھنامە

responsibility + [document] = document/contract defining or confirming responsibilities
مەسئۇلىيەت + نامە = مەسئۇلىيەتنامە

rules, constitution + [document] = charter, written constitution
نىزام + نامە = نىزامنامە

counsel left by a dying person to their surviving progeny + [document] = a letter of counsel left by a dying person to their surviving progeny
ۋەسىيەت + نامە = ۋەسىيەتنامە

The standard vowel-reduction rules apply when adding this suffix - i.e., if the noun ends in an ئا or ئە vowel, this reduces to an ئى (provided that it is not a long vowel).

a pledge, a covenant + [document] = written pledge, written covenant
ئەھدە + نامە = ئەھدىنامە

With nouns ending in vowels other than ئا and ئە, or in the long-vowel ئا and ئە, no change in the vowel takes place.

punishment + [document] = written verdict
جازا + نامە = جازانامە
