The Accusative Case Suffix نى

چۈشۈم كېلىشنىڭ «نى» قوشۇمچىسى

Uyghur is a "subject-object-verb" language, while English is a "subject-verb-object" language. What this essentially means is that basic subject-verb-object structures, such as "I [subject] ate [verb] the apple [object]" or "She [subject] loves [verb] me [object]", need to be expressed with different ordering in Uyghur (i.e., as "I the apple ate" or "She me loves"). The object in such sentences is called a "direct object" as it is acted on directly by the subject through the verb. In Uyghur, it is often required that the direct object is identified by the addition of the suffix نى (in linguistic terms, this is called the "accusative case").

I ate the apple.
.مەن ئالمىنى يېدىم

She loves me.
.ئۇ مېنى ياخشى كۆرىدۇ
