Letter Forms: Breaking Consonants

To determine what form the breaking consonants د، ر، ز، ژ، ۋ take, it is sufficient to consider only the fundamental yes/no question: "does the letter start a string?" If it is the first letter in the word or if the previous letter is a breaking letter, then the answer will be "yes" and the isolated/independent form will be used. Otherwise, the letter will be connected to the letter before it. Note that a string of just one letter is still considered a string, and that all breaking letters that start a string must, by definition, "start" a string of only a single letter.

Starts StringDoes Not Start String

The letter ژ remains somewhat foreign to Uyghur, and so you are not likely to encounter it very often. Quite rare as well are words ending in ۋ (unless they are of Chinese origin).
